Dreaming of trekking through Sarek? Now’s your chance to explore this legendary national park together with experienced guides and a small group of like-minded adventurers. We move through unmarked terrain, set up camp in new locations each night, and fill our days with hiking, fellowship and unforgettable encounters with wild nature.

Sarek offers a mountain wilderness where you can hike for days without meeting another soul. Majestic landscapes and the feeling of being truly off the grid make this an unforgettable journey. With the right preparation and guidance, it becomes a safe and inspiring adventure – a journey that asks a little of you, but gives back so much more.

Course format and overview

During the trek, you’ll experience:

  • Seven days in the breathtaking wilderness of Sarek

  • Hiking through unmarked terrain of varying difficulty

  • Tent camping at carefully selected spots each night

  • Autumn’s stunning colors, shifting from green to gold and crimson

  • A relaxing sauna and three-course dinner at Saltoluokta mountain station to finish.

The trek is led by experienced guides who share their knowledge and ensure the group enjoys a safe and rewarding adventure.

Meet the gudies on our Sarek trek

Torbjörn Selin, a certified mountain guide and an experienced leader and instructor in survival and outdoor skills.

We always put safety first. If the weather turns unexpectedly challenging, we may need to adjust our planned route accordingly.

Experience and preparations

  • You should be able to hike 15 km per day while carrying your own backpack. By signing up, you confirm that you are in adequate physical condition at the start of the trek – this is important for safety reasons.

  • To prepare, you train on your own beforehand by hiking with your pack, both on flat terrain and up and down hills.

  • You have some prior experience with outdoor life and are familiar with handling your own gear.

  • You’ve already broken in your hiking boots and know they won’t cause blisters.

  • You bring a positive attitude and a willingness to be part of a team in the wilderness.

Equipment

You are responsible for bringing your own gear and food for the entire trek. Equipment can be rented from us if needed, and we’re happy to provide recommendations for both gear and suitable food. A detailed packing list will be sent out before the trip.

Examples of required gear:

  • Backpack (60–80 liters)
  • Tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad
  • Stove, fuel, and food for seven days
  • Clothing suitable for mountain conditions and changing weather (including rain gear and warm layers)
  • Map, compass, and personal items

Travel information

  • Travel to Gällivare is at your own expense.
  • From Gällivare, take a bus to Stora Sjöfallet.
  • We meet on August 15th at 13:00 in Stora Sjöfallet.
  • A helicopter will take the group to the edge of the national park – this is included in the price.
  • There will also be a boat transfer during the trek, which costs approximately SEK 400 (not included).
  • The trek ends on August 21st at Saltoluokta Mountain Station, where we celebrate with dinner and a sauna.
    If you choose to stay overnight at the mountain station, you’ll cover that cost yourself. Camping nearby is also an option.
  • On August 22nd, you take the bus back to Gällivare.

Description of the Sarek Trek

The total hiking distance is approximately 80 kilometers, plus an optional summit ascent.
Daily stages range between 10 and 18 kilometers and will be adjusted based on weather conditions.

Day 1 (Saturday): Arrival and helicopter transfer.

Meet-up at Stora Sjöfallet at 1 PM, gear check and safety briefing. We’ll go through safety procedures for the trek and distribute some shared equipment.

Day 2 (Sunday-Thursday): Hiking through Sarek National Park

Daily hikes through varied terrain. Overnight camping in tents, outdoor cooking, and guided reflections along the way. A chance to experience both the vibrant colors of autumn and the ever-changing mountain weather.

Day 7 (Friday): Finish in Saltoluokta

The trek ends at Saltoluokta Mountain Station, where a sauna, shower, and three-course dinner await. You can choose to book a night at the mountain station (not included in the price), or enjoy one last night in your tent before heading home.
