Difficulty & Requirements
This guided trekking adventure is designed for hikers who are comfortable with multi-day backcountry travel in true wilderness conditions. Sarek is not a typical maintained hiking trail: you will be walking off marked paths, carrying your own gear, and crossing uneven terrain including rocky ground, marshland, riverbeds and mountain slopes.
What this requires from you
Good physical fitness and endurance — we cover multiple kilometres per day carrying a full backpack of supplies for the entire trip.
Experience with multi-day hiking and camping — you should be familiar with setting up camp, packing efficiently, and living with what you carry.
Comfort in varied and often harsh weather conditions — rain, wind and cold can occur even in summer, and river crossings may vary with water level.
Mental preparedness — this is real wilderness; solitude, physical challenge and adapting to the unexpected are core parts of the experience.
What this trek gives you
At the same time, this journey offers some of the most remarkable mountain scenery in Europe, from glacier-cut valleys to sweeping high plains. Hiking here is an immersive experience in a landscape where nature remains largely untouched — it’s demanding, but deeply rewarding for those prepared to embrace it.
Trek About Sarek National Park
Sarek National Park is one of Europe’s most dramatic and remote wilderness areas, located in the heart of Swedish Lapland. Established in 1909, the park covers nearly 2,000 km² of rugged alpine terrain with deep valleys, numerous peaks over 1,800 m and around 100 glaciers. Sarek is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Laponia and is revered for its wild landscapes, powerful rivers and genuine sense of solitude.
Unlike many other national parks, there are no marked trails, no roads and no accommodation inside Sarek — which means every journey here is true wilderness travel. The landscape ranges from broad glacial valleys and tumbling river deltas to sharp mountain ridges providing spectacular views, but also demanding navigational skills and resilience.
Sarek has long been a destination for experienced hikers and mountaineers seeking a real backcountry adventure — the remoteness, raw nature and changing weather make it one of the most unique places to trek in Scandinavia.
